Under the patronage of Ministry of Industry in Syria, and in cooperation with the International Standardization Organization (ISO), the Syrian Arab Standard and Metrology Organization (SASMO) held an awareness raising seminar on the Social Responsibility Standard (ISO 26000).
The seminar showed that the social responsibility of corporations is beyond philanthropic activities, and that the Standard is a comprehensive document that includes a definition of Social Responsibility, the principles that must be followed, and the various issues that fall in the areas of these principles.
The seminar also discussed the role of governments in encouraging corporations to implement the Social Responsibility Standard through incentives.
The seminar presented some pilot experiences in applying the SR standard; one is the experience of Madar Aluminum Company (represented by Mr.Hassan Daaboul) which is a member of AFEI.
